And the bookend, our local paper, The Gazette
Wednesday, 01 September 2010 06:15

September 1, 2010

From The Gazette:

"Dana Beyer, a retired eye surgeon whose crystal-clear views on everything from the state budget to transportation are refreshing compared to experienced politicians who too often regurgitate tired party line statements, deserves the third seat. Beyer favors a zero-based budgeting process, a public health option, federal funding for Metro and incentives to encourage the development and use of energy-saving technology, all positions relevant to her constituency."

The Big One!

August 23, 2010

From today's Washington Post editorial:

District 18:

In the House, the three incumbents are running on a slate with Mr. Madaleno, but they disagree with him and with each other on major issues. We support Del. Ana Sol Gutierrez, who favors construction of the Purple Line along the Georgetown Branch route; by contrast, Dels. Jeff Waldstreicher and Al Carr oppose it. Ms. Gutierrez, the sole Latino in the Montgomery delegation, has also been a strong advocate in Annapolis for immigrants. Two strong challengers are worthy of support: Dana Beyer, a retired physician and former aide to County Council member Duchy Trachtenberg; and Vanessa Atterbeary, an attorney who serves on the Montgomery County Commission for Women. Both are Purple Line supporters who are better attuned to the district's mix of affluent and working-class residents.

Costco Successes
Friday, 30 July 2010 22:58

July 30, 2010

This is a huge success for the communities of Wheaton, Kensington and Silver Spring who organized to keep the Costco 16-bay gas station out of the mall. While canvassing all these neighborhoods I found overwhelming resident support for Costco itself, but nearly as overwhelming opposition to another gas station for the locality. Read the Gazette article.

Congratulations, "No to Costco Gas."

Milestone!

July 19, 2010

This past weekend I crossed another milestone in my campaign for state delegate. I have now walked through every neighborhood in my district, every precinct, at least once! It has been a pleasure and honor to get to know my neighbors, and I look forward to working with them in the future.

Now for the homestretch!

Gazette story on four new LGBT candidates
Sunday, 20 June 2010 21:25

This past Friday, June 18, the Gazette published a story on the four new LGBT candidates running for state office in Maryland. If all of us are elected, in addition to the incumbents who are all running for re-election, Maryland will have the highest LGBT representation in the country. My colleagues are Mary Washington and Luke Clippinger in Baltimore, and Bonnie Cullison here in Montgomery County. I am the only trans candidate, and will be the first American state delegate of transgender history if elected.

Gazette biography
Sunday, 20 June 2010 21:14

This short bio was published in the Gazette on Wednesday, June 16th, appearing on the front page of the Wheaton edition. The paper interviews all candidates and then publishes these introductory pieces.

There were a few minor errors, such as my interest in introducing a public [health care] option rather than a private one, as well as my "working to" balance the county budgets with the Trachtenberg team rather than single-handedly balancing the budgets. Credit where credit is due.
